The purpose of this study was to verify the possibility of determining the intensity of lactate threshold (LT) of two specific taekwondo tests (TKD) and compare them to each other. Ten TKD male competitors (age 23.3 ± 9.8 years, body mass 70.2 ± 9 kg and height 1.74 ± 7.7 m) performed an incremental test (IT) and a lactate minimum test (LMT), in both cases using the half-moon kick (bandal chagui) and performed on different days. In both tests, the LT was determined by visual inspection. The incremental test (IT) consisted in stages with a duration of 2 minutes each, starting with 15 kicks min-1 (increments of 15 kicks min -1) to exhaustion. After each stage, a blood collection is performed in order to analsze the lactate concentration. The LMT protocol was equal to the IT protocol, but began after a hyperlactatemia. No differences were observed in the amount of kicks in LT (P> 0.05) between tests (IT 60 ± 17.3 min-1 kicks versus LMT 71.2 ± 10.6 with kicks · min-1) . In addition, a good concordance between LT and LMT is observed. Therefore, the data indicates that it is possible to identify the LT in specific TKD tests, with no difference in intensity in the lactate threshold between IT and LMT.
